Of course, a major part of the Les Paul BFG With Tremolo’s appeal is the new vibrato tailpiece that gives it its name. Both pickups are made with genuine Alnico magnets (Alnico V in the P-90, Alnico II in the BB3), and the pair is routed through a network of independent volume controls, master tone control, three-way toggle switch, and a “kill switch” mounted in the usual upper-bout selector switch position, handy for dramatic stutter and chopper effects. In the bridge position, a BurstBucker 3 presents classic PAF-style clarity and depth, with a little extra oomph when you need it, courtesy of slightly overwound coils, which are also wax potted to avoid microphonic squeal at high volume levels. A P-90 in the neck position yields all the biting, edgy fat single-coil tones that have made this pickup a favorite since the 1940s. The maple board looks awesome with very minimal fret wear. gave it a generic musicians gear hard shell case to call home (in which the guitar will ship). Generic amber switch tip (cracked but functional). Generic (possibly Gibson) control plates.
GIBSON LES PAUL RAW POWER CRACK
Gibson pickguard (slight crack at top screw hole). aged the chrome and nickel parts to look old and match (some is nickel and some is chrome and now it all looks similar and from the same period). It now has push/pull pots to boost your signal for each pickup. installed Gibson 490/498 quick connect pickup set with complete Gibson quick connect harness. shimmed the nut for optimal playability and no buzz. repaired hairline cracks at both sides of the nut to prevent further crazing (see last two photos).
Here’s what I’ve done to the guitar to get it up and running (and playing and sounding great): Part of the 2009 Raw Power series, this guitar appears to have had one of the silver or pewter finishes originally, but was tastefully stripped by a previous owner to its natural glory, then sprayed with an ultra thin clear coat. Like maple? This particular Les Paul sports a maple top, multi-piece (at least four) maple body, maple fingerboard! And a mahogany neck.
